2026-07-20 · 7 min read
Westminster, West End, Kensington, Shoreditch — pick a base that matches your days, not a hotel star rating.
London is massive. The wrong neighborhood can mean forty minutes underground before breakfast. Most first trips work best in Zone 1 or inner Zone 2 — close enough to walk between major sights without living on the Tube.
Westminster and Victoria
Classic first-timer zone. Walking distance to Parliament, the Abbey, and Buckingham Palace. Plenty of lodging, quieter evenings once tours end. Victoria Station makes day trips simple.
West End
Theaters, restaurants, and night energy. Costlier and busier — but you step outside into the thick of the trip.
- Walkable to major museums and shopping streets
- Dining and shows stay lively past 10pm
- Multiple Tube lines make hopping around easy
Paddington, Bayswater, Kensington
Hyde Park nearby, often better lodging value, and Paddington links Heathrow fast. Kensington leans calmer with big museums on foot.

Shoreditch, the City, King's Cross
East London for markets and creative nights. The City for quieter weekend rates near the Tower. King's Cross for strong Tube links and Camden energy north of the core.
Tell us museums vs markets, early mornings vs late nights — we'll suggest a zone that fits before you lock lodging.
